Another bloody win, it can't go on like this can it Mick?
What a day, what a match, what a performance. Growler faced Project FC who beat us 5-0 in our pre-season friendly, the messaging coming into the game was positive as they beat us on astro-turf and had not faced growler on the bobble of Cooksey Lane.
This messaging became a reality, Growler dominated Project throughout this fixture with relentlace press from the forward line making our opponents create mistake after mistake while playing it out from the back. Our opponents being used to playing on carpet were not ready or equipped to actually play on grass, but growler, we are made for this.
Our new signing Joss making a debut start today on the right wing caused consistent problems for our opponents back 4, winning challenges, headers and creating multiple chances. Our first goal came from the man himself, beating his man and putting it past the keeper to make it 1-0 early on. Or so we thought it was Joss, the poacher Max Calvert-Preston can and smashed the ball in the back of the net. Chasing down that top goalscorer award before he ships off to Australia for a mental health break, it's clear he is taking no prisoners and took away Joss' debut goal in a growler shirt.
A new implementation in Morgan ball is inspired by Brentford and Arsenal, the Long throw-in. It was discovered that our very own Alfie had a Rory Delap throw in style that would make Tony Pulis raise a tent in his trousers. From this Growler created multiple chances from Long throw-in's into the box with Dixon putting a calm header in the back of the net over the keeper who had the audacity to try and claim it. A Cantona esc celebration followed, implying to the punter that this is just what he does.
Despite the Growler dominance, Project FC grew into the game and started asking questions of our back 4, which were answered the Growler way. Jake and Cal Lee our full-back's today putting in a solid shift not letting our opponents wingers have any joy. However, a goal did come from a through ball in which the Project striker took it round Dave and slotted in the back of the net. Against the run of play but with that being the last kick of the half we ended 2-1 up.
Half time messaging to keep it consistent and continue applying pressure to seal the game off, the next goal scored was crucial to the full time result.
Project came out flying in the second half, working through the midfield and attempting to create good chances, again our back 4 and Dave in goal were relentless and gave them no joy at all.
After a month's hiatus going raving and faking an injury, the wanna be Giroud was back on the scoresheet today. Layton could not hit a barn door it seemed and then a great opportunity came where he slotted it past the keeper, a great finish that show's why he is the current Top scorer for Growler (We don't want to mention the 6 shots that went wide as it would hurt his ego).
Our fourth and final goal of the game came from some unreal build up play from Dixon and Layton, quick tiki-taka football with a backwards flick on by Layton saw our man Max Calvert-Preston bury it in the back of the net making it a brace for him today. When it rains it pours.
Another outstanding performance from the team and one to be really proud of, it is clear how well the squad has developed since our last meeting with Project. We move onto a tough game next week, a six pointer some have said. Keep on Growling and keep on winning.
