Football didn't win today... Growler did.
After 4 frustrating losses on the bounce gaffer Morgan has found the solution, a comfortable win with the entire squad playing some outstanding football.
The first half saw Brody West and Pablo Sandhar bossing the right hand side, creating some Messi/Dani Alves tiki-taka football and leading to our opening goal within the first 5 minutes. Isaac placed the ball perfectly to Brody's feet through the opponents defensive line and Brody being Growlers top goalscorer slotted it away comfortably.
Our second gaol would come shortly after, the cousin chemistry of Will and Isaac was clear. Will played a simple pass to Isaac which then turned into a humiliation of the opponents right back and Isaac slotting it in across the keeper, a truly class goal and one that the gaffer was happy to see from a key player after an endless count of rotter's so far in the pre-season.
After our drinks break the gaffer instructed the team one thing, and that was to get another before half time. Calvert-Preston up front took this responsibility on his back and created multiple problems for the opponents centre-half's eventually leading them to bring him down in the box and Growler being awarded a penalty. After the antics of Project FC Away we have a dedicated penalty taker with that being Layton Breedon. Layton stepped up to the mark and calmly placed the ball in the top right corner (Keeper 100% didn't nearly save it....). With that the ref blew for half time with Growler being 3-0 up at the break.
The second half was a mirror of the first, Growler dominating Midfield with the likes of Cal Lee, Will Howell and our new signing Elliot making his Growler debut.
Our 4th goal came from Calvert-Preston, a perfectly weighted ball in from Major saw Max beat the goalkeeper for a header. Well done, He's 13. Some of the opponents substitutes meant they were creating more opportunities and questioning the Growler back 4, these questions were answered time after time. All round solid defensive performances from the likes of Shea, Alfie, Jake, Brody and Joel, moving in sync and defending like a brick wall.
About our right back, he went and scored again - Max laying the ball to Brody and again calmly slotting it in the back of the net, another reward for the work-rate shown. Layton set up our last goal to our MOTM Isaac Fellows, Aura farming at its finest Isaac dominated the left wing and proved to the gaffer why he should be in the starting 11 until he's in Australia Shagging 9's and drinking wine (PG Version).
Substitutions just before the final drinks break saw Joel Hughes, Hughie Brennan and Wadams all make an appearance, some hear-racing football from all 3 gave the punters some great entertainment and all performed the way a Growler should.
Our opponents did get a chance late on in the game, a great ball over to their right winger meant he was in a 1 on 1 with Dave in net, little did he know that Dave's 6 foot 2 & Sunburnt - A great save by Dave meant that Growler secured their first ever clean sheet, an overall defensive masterclass.
Call Lee is going for the FIFA fair play award this season so offered to end the game 10 minutes early, the board have sent him on a course to learn the Growler way of life - Lesson to be learnt but the gaffer will not stand for it going forward.
Overall a massive rush of energy when the final whistle was blown, a lot of positives to take away going into the last few games of pre-season. This is the start if the Growler 11 aside dynasty, Rome wasn't built in a day but the foundations have been set.
