28th September 2025 | Oscott Drakes Drum (A) | Challenge Cup
After a strong start to the season Growler have their first cup game of the season which has come to an abrupt end.
This week's opponents were Oscott Drakes Drum, a strong side that we faced in Pre-Season where we lost 6-0.
A slow start from the team, quite a few late fines caused by beverages the night before meant the team looked lack-lustre from the off, conceding 2 goals in the opening 20 minutes.
Despite the slow start, we created multiple chances with the 2nd goal being a wake-up call. Unfortunately again we were unable to capitalise on some great chances, something that hasd hurt us this season and again today. With a potential to actually equalise coming into half time but falling short cause a lot of frustration. Half time Oscott 2-0 Growler.
The second half instructions were to keep creating chances, press high and get back into the game. We saw Kegan come on off the bench and impress the punters with some unconventional dribbling ability. Constantly beating his man whilst looking confused when he did it. Much like the first half, multiple great chances that we did not put away. Due to tired legs, we did unfortunately concede a 3rd goal with the 4th goal coming from a free header in the box as the referee blew his whistle.
A huge shoutout to our Chairman/Bib Man/Rambo - Running the line in the second half. His key highlight of the game was when attempting to control a football his legs gave way ending up flying in the air and landing in his arse. An impressive Looney Toons banana slip fall, great work Zayn!
Despite what the score line shows, this was in no way a battering. The team grafted and we had multiple changes to grab a few goals but a repeating issue of finding the back of the net is in the squad. Although we are frustrated to be out of a potential cup run, this has meant we can focus on the other cup competitions but most importantly the League.
