Back to winning ways!
Growler came flying out the traps with an early goal coming down the left after a wonderful through ball by new boy James Dixon, Isaac fellows beat his man to put us 1-0 within 5 minutes. The man loves stat padding against full backs with no legs.
It’s was more of the same in the beginning of the 1st half with player of month for October Miles creating both goals out of nothing, the 1st found the top corner from 25 yards and the second was equally as good as he ran through the Kingshurst defence like a prime Hatem Ben Arfa to slot it past the keeper.
With Growlers 3-0 and cruising Cal Lee had enough and chopped down Kingshurst’s own Alejandro Gar’nachos’ to give away penalty on the stroke of half time, the same player stepped up to take and slotted it past a deserted Skidmore in net.
Into the 2nd half after a not so inspiring team talk from the gaffer and the second half continued as we left off, with growler letting a bottom of league Kingshurst side control the tempo of the game. When Growler did have the ball it was met with our wingers crossing the ball into a nervous Calvert-Preston who was trying his hardest to mark himself out of the game.
Midway through the second half and Kingshurst pounce on a poor touch from Mr Brennan at the back, with the long grass holding the ball up the Kingshurst winger nicked the ball and pulled off a wonderful striker which saw an even better save from Skidmore on net tipping the ball onto the post, the rebound saw an offside Kingshurst player tap the ball into the net only for the flag not to go up as Zayn ‘Rambo’ Adshead found himself looking at the new queslett menu.
With the score at 3-2 Growlers worked an opening and Preston was taken down for a soft penalty, the same man stepped up and hearts were in mouths for the Growler faithful as Calvert-Preston had his penalty saved with the follow up almost decapitating the Kingshurst keeper. However, it was sudden joy 5 minutes later as Max turned his man and curled one into the top corner of the net.
The end of the game saw a few shaky moments as the gaffer reverted to a back 5 to bring on Wadams, Rast and the best technical player at the club for the last 15 minutes until full time, a nervous performance at times but a good 3 points to take into next week!
