After back to back wins in the league Growler FC suffer their first defeat in the league.
This weeks opponents were Boldmere Wanderers FC, a side who were recently relegated from Division 1 of the Sutton league and showed their experience over the Growlers.
From the whistle the game started at a very fast pace with Calvert-Preston being denied by an early block from the Boldmere defender, the game quickly turned when Boldmere capitalised on 2 separate defensive lapses of concentration to make it an early 2-0 lead, the second a brilliantly controlled lob over a stranded Skidmore.
The Growlers quickly replied with Jake winning a free kick on the edge of the Boldmere box, Alfie Morgan channeled his inner Aleksandar Kolarov and fired the free kick into the top left corner of the Boldmere net, the growlers were back in it and were fired up by a pissed Callum Lee to go get another.
Before half time we saw more lapses of concentration at the back which saw keeper Skidmore pick up a back pass by Shea Brennan. Whilst the opposition didn’t capitalise on this error they shortly made the scoreline 3-1 with a free header from a corner and referee blew for half time.
Whilst the Growlers attempted to get fired up at half time the second half started with not much action and both teams struggling to create chances, Roughly 60 minutes into the game and Boldmere found their 4th with a nicely taken goal from the edge of the box.
The game continued with not much action until 5 minutes before the full time whistle when the Boldmere midfielder made an extremely late challenge on our goalscorer, the challenge resulted in an exchange of words and both players were booked. The referee shortly called time on the game which saw Growler suffer their first defeat of the season, a disappointing result but one we can learn from.
